My Journey in Visual Storytelling
2000–2005 — Freelance Creative (Brisbane & Gold Coast)
I began my career as a self-taught freelance designer, working independently with clients across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. I handled everything from client acquisition to final delivery, creating bespoke graphic and web design solutions. This phase laid the foundation for my visual language and taught me the discipline of running creative projects end-to-end—skills that continue to inform my approach to directing and cinematography today.
2006–2007 — Graphic Designer & Interactive Developer at Deep Blue Earth
At Deep Blue Earth, I expanded into interactive digital content, developing rich media websites using Flash and serving as a pre-press and production advisor. This role marked my first deep dive into motion-based design, foreshadowing my eventual move into video and film production.
2007–2009 — Co-Founder & Senior Graphic Designer at Always Interactive
As one of the four founding partners, I helped evolve Always Interactive from an email marketing startup into a boutique web development agency. I wore many hats, learning how to manage a creative team and lead projects. This period was instrumental in building my technical versatility and entrepreneurial mindset—traits that later helped me establish and grow Grolez Films.
2009–2012 — Co-Founder & Art Director at DreamsCreative
At DreamsCreative, I was responsible for art direction and creative strategy for both local and international clients such as InterContinental Hotels Group, ADNOC, and Sorouh. Our agency received recognition for its design excellence, and my role expanded to include leadership over multimedia campaigns—gradually bridging the gap between static visuals and motion-based storytelling.
2012–2013 — Creative Lead at Big Shot
Transitioning fully into integrated brand storytelling, I led creative teams including graphic designers, social media specialists, photographers, and videographers. I developed brand identities and oversaw marketing initiatives that included live events and e-commerce platforms. This role gave me first-hand experience in managing video content within the broader context of brand communication.
2014–2018 — Head of Creative Production at Gulf Marketing Group
This role marked a pivotal shift into film and video as central mediums. Leading a team of photographers and videographers across divisions like Sports, Healthcare, Education, and Pharmaceuticals, I was responsible for shaping GMG’s visual narrative across the region. It was here that my passion for motion storytelling solidified, guiding me toward a dedicated path in cinematography.
2018-Present — Head of Production | Director | Filmmaker | Director of Photography | Founder at Grolez Films
Luis launched Grolez Film Production, a venture dedicated to conceptualizing and creating high-quality video content across various genres. Committed to excellence, Luis collaborates closely with clients to bring their visions to life, consistently adapting to their requirements and exceeding expectations.
